FC Energie Cottbus successfully secured their promotion to the 2. Bundesliga after defeating Jahn Regensburg 1-0 on Saturday. Jannis Boziaris scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute by shooting a strong shot into the corner. Although Cottbus momentarily wobbled during the final phase of play as Jahn advanced their attack, the team managed to maintain its narrow lead-partly thanks to a crucial penalty save in stoppage time-allowing them to celebrate their return to the lower division after a twelve-year absence.
Adding to the promotion race, Rot-Weiß Essen also remains a strong contender. RWE secured a crucial three-to-two victory over relegation battler SSV Ulm in a turbulent match. Goals scored by Ben Vincent Hüning in injury time proved to be the winning score. In simultaneous news, MSV Duisburg struggled, unable to secure a win against Viktoria Köln, resulting in a 1-1 draw and seeing them drop to fourth place in the standings. MSV captain Rasim Bulic hit the post just moments before the final whistle.
Meanwhile, VfL Osnabrück, having already confirmed themselves as the first 2. Liga promoter and champions of the 3. Liga, concluded their successful season with a difficult 4-3 victory against the reserve team of VfB Stuttgart.
