The SPD-led states are strongly emphasizing safety concerning the proposed reforms to driver training put forward by the Federal Cabinet. According to Petra Berg, the Minister for Traffic in Saarland, the priority is ensuring that no compromises are made regarding road safety.
Due to this urgent focus on safety, she stressed that the training provided to laypersons must be guided tightly and professionally. At the same time, Berg reminded the government that the cost of obtaining a driving license must remain affordable. Any planned structural cost reductions should therefore benefit the driving schools directly. These states also expressed their positive reception towards the parts of the reform package dedicated to simplifying bureaucracy and introducing digitalization.
