Employers Urge Clear KI Rules for Education to Boost Innovation and Competitiveness

Employers are urging the federal government and regional states to establish clear and reliable guidelines for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the education sector. This demand stems from a position paper released by the Federal Association of German Employers’ Associations (BDA), which was reported on by the “Handelsblatt”. The paper specifies that educational administrations must define legal requirements, design practices that are usable in the real world, and provide educational institutions with guidance on the safe deployment of AI.

Rainer Dulger, President of the employers, told the “Handelsblatt” that clinging to outdated structures is currently preventing classroom innovation. He noted that AI has the potential to make learning more individualized and alleviate the burden on teachers, but “we are letting this potential lapse” he lamented. Dulger emphasized that AI will be crucial for the future competitiveness of Germany.

The BDA president specifically called for legal certainty regarding data protection and liability, as well as reliable digital infrastructure. Furthermore, he demands mandatory AI competencies for both students and teachers. Dulger also stressed that testing and evaluation systems must evolve to align with the reality of adopting AI. He concluded by urging educational administrations and schools to take the courage needed to allow AI into daily operations rather than actively blocking its use.
