The German social association SoVD is calling for civil servants to be included in the statutory health and long-term care insurance. Michaela Engelmeier, the chairwoman of the SoVD, told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that the organization has long advocated for a citizen’s insurance model where everyone contributes, stating this is necessary to ensure the future security of the statutory health insurance system. Furthermore, she emphasized that caregiving is a responsibility of entire society. Given that both privately and publicly insured individuals receive the same benefits within the long-term care insurance, a capable and solidary citizen’s insurance based on social care insurance is particularly appropriate. According to Engelmeier, financing the system through every demographic is “only fair”.
