Monika Schnitzer, the chairperson of the Economic Advisors group (Wirtschaftsweisen), is calling for the political sphere to place significantly greater emphasis on managing Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking to the dts news agency on Wednesday, she stated that a crucial discussion is currently being overlooked: “How do we deal with AI and how do we ensure a strong presence in this field?” She raised several fundamental questions, including the origin of the data centers needed to develop proprietary applications, the possibility of developing our own AI models, and where the necessary energy will come from.
Schnitzer believes that these issues will profoundly influence future economic growth and whether the nation can compete effectively or risk being left behind. Despite this critical importance, she noted that these topics are virtually absent from the public discourse. “A lot is debated about fuel discounts, but very little-in fact, hardly ever-is discussed about the data centers that we need for AI development” Schnitzer added. She concluded by saying this is a central matter she sincerely wishes the government would address.
