Kubicki Counters Age Critics in Bid for FDP Leadership, Emphasizing Experience and Relevance

Wolfgang Kubicki strongly pushes back against the claim that he is too old to lead the FDP. Speaking on the “Machtmenschen” podcast from Focus, he dismissed the criticism, stating, “I find this age-bashing becoming rather tiresome”.

Kubicki argues that his age is actually an advantage, noting that maturity, experience, calm composure, and independence are crucial requisites for a successful political career. He referenced constitutional principles, observing, “There is a reason the founding fathers stipulated that the Federal President must be at least 40 years old”.

He is convinced of his ability to succeed as the FDP chairman. During his time as state chairman in Schleswig-Holstein, he demonstrated his capabilities. While his party colleagues have expressed confidence in him, Kubicki now aims to prove his worth by ensuring the FDP crosses the five-percent threshold again. He described this endeavor as possibly “the last major challenge of my political life” concluding that success would bring satisfaction to himself, his party, and the country.
