New Steering Committee Launched to Manage Closures of Damaged Bonn Rhine Bridge

The steering group, known as the “Lenkungskreis,” responsible for the closed Bonner Nordbrücke over the Rhine, will begin its work on Wednesday, according to the Federal Ministry of Transport.

The committee is chaired by State Secretary Claudia Elif Stutz (CDU) and includes representatives from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Autobahn GmbH, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Bonn, and the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis. This steering group is tasked with “coordinating the further steps,” the ministry stated.

The Bonner Nordbrücke carries an important traffic artery-a motorway-in the Rhineland. The bridge was closed on June 3rd after structural damage to the superstructure was revealed during inspections. The ministry emphasized that Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder (CDU) acted “immediately” following the discovery.
