The Green Party welcomes potential new G7 assistance for Ukraine, but demands concrete steps be taken. During remarks given to the “Rheinische Post”, Green leader Franziska Brantner insisted that she would only believe promises if actions followed. She called for increased military aid, stricter sanctions, and financial support for the Ukrainian budget. “Everything is welcome to end this war, allow Ukraine to live in peace and freedom, and generally ease the security situation across Europe,” she stated.
Turning to the Middle East, Brantner asserted that a sustainable ceasefire is long overdue. However, she noted that the specifics of what Washington had agreed upon with Tehran remain unknown. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that the Iranian regime appears to be in a better position today than it was before the war. In this context, she criticized Friedrich Merz of the CDU. The Green politician stated that she found it incomprehensible how Chancellor Merz was celebrating a supposed diplomatic breakthrough from Donald Trump.
