Actress Anne Hathaway has issued a warning against the reliance on AI tools, such as ChatGPT, when submitting mass applications. Speaking on Hits Radio, the Oscar winner recounted an experience during a hiring process where she received several identical thank-you messages from candidates, which she recognized as being AI-generated.
Hathaway noted that while she was involved in one of the recruitment processes, all the applicants were pleasant, and all sent her follow-up thank-you notes. However, when she reviewed the submissions, she discovered that every single message was identical and had been written by artificial intelligence.
Initially, she considered the first note to be professional and well-thought-out. But the realization of identical versions from other applicants signaled a problem. “My thought was: ‘Oh no, I am seeing something that I shouldn’t see’,” Hathaway shared.
She issued a strong warning to job seekers: those who believe that using AI-generated correspondence will help them succeed risk revealing more about themselves than they intend to.
