German Research Ministry Demands Investigation into Cispa’s Alleged Ties to China Military Circles

The Federal Ministry of Research has announced a swift investigation following a report concerning alleged contacts between the Helmholtz Centre for Information Security (Cispa) and China. According to research conducted by the Handelsblatt, the institute reportedly collaborated with Chinese scientists linked to military circles, as well as with universities that may be listed on US sanctions lists.

A spokesperson for the Ministry told the Handelsblatt that, as part of implementing Cispa’s new research security strategy, the stakeholders will initiate a rapid and comprehensive review of the aforementioned issues. The Federal Ministry chairs the Supervisory Board of the Helmholtz Centre, and the Saarland is another participating shareholder alongside the federal government.
