Freight Train Wagon Plummets from Munich Bridge, One Critically Injured

In Munich’s Milbertshofen district, a freight train wagon fell from a bridge onto a street during the night into Saturday. Sources from emergency services indicated that at least one person sustained life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. during shunting operations on the Munich Northern Ring. Consequently, Schleißheimer Straße was closed near Max-Diamand-Straße. Emergency responders initially did not release further details regarding the incident.

The bridge in question accommodates four parallel tracks, and the area also features switches that allow for track changes. The Munich Northern Ring serves as a rail bypass on the northern edge of the Bavarian state capital and is primarily important for freight transport. Cargo operations, particularly related to the oil industry, take place at the nearby Milbertshofen station, alongside the factory transport of a BMW plant. Passenger traffic is generally not handled at this location.
