A 41-year-old man died on Saturday evening during a police operation in Krefeld. According to information provided by the police and the public prosecutor’s office early Sunday morning, the man was initially severely injured and later succumbed to his wounds in the hospital.
The officers were called to the Uerdingen district around 8 p.m. to handle an assault incident. At that time, an altercation had reportedly occurred between the man and family members, during which a woman sustained minor injuries.
When two police officers arrived, the suspect allegedly attacked them with a knife. Following this attack, one of the officers used his firearm. Neither of the two police officers was injured during the deployment.
The investigation has been taken over by Gelsenkirchen police on the basis of neutrality considerations.
