The SPD leadership intends to raise the statutory vacation entitlement. According to reporting by the newspaper “Bild”, based on sources familiar with the matter, the entitlement is proposed to increase by one day, rising to at least 21 days.
The SPD’s proposal is currently being discussed with the Federal Government’s office, reportedly making it one part of a broader package of demands from the party. “Bild” adds that millions of employees in Germany stand to benefit from an increase in vacation time.
Furthermore, the Hans-Böckler Foundation estimates that approximately ten to fifteen percent of employees in Germany only receive the current statutory entitlement of 20 days. The Federal Ministry of Labour did not comment on the proposal when contacted by the paper.
