German Union Holds Rail Chief Accountable After Nationwide Digital Communication Disruption

Following the nationwide cancellation of train services due to a disruption in the digital communication system, Evelyn Palla, the head of the rail sector, is being called to account. Stephan Stracke, deputy leader of the Union faction, told the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition) that he expects Palla to find solutions. The incident, the transport expert added, once again highlights how urgently the railway needs to be brought up to standard. He emphasized that this applies not only to dilapidated rails and infrastructure but also to the technology crucial for operations. Stracke stressed that the technology must be modern and resilient, arguing that it “cannot be the case that the failure of a radio system paralyzes rail transport across all of Germany.”
