The nationwide breakdown of radio technology, which completely stalled train traffic for over two hours last night, is a major topic of discussion for the Deutsche Bahn supervisory board this Wednesday, according to the “Handelsblatt.” Chief Controller Werner Gatzer told the newspaper that this issue will be discussed during today’s strategy meeting. Although the control committee has stated that the causes of the disruption have not yet been fully determined, members of the supervisory board expressed relief that the disturbance was resolved relatively quickly this time. This is not the first time such an issue has arisen; four years ago, the aging digital radio system GSM-R failed for several hours in northern Germany. A successor system based on the 5G mobile standard is currently undergoing testing.
