Serving as President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock sharply criticized the US government for its attack on Iran. According to her statement to “Handelsblatt”, the action constituted a clear violation of the UN Charter. She emphasized that thousands of innocent people, including many children, have been killed or injured as a result of this conflict.
Baerbock expressed skepticism regarding the recently negotiated declaration of intent between Iran and the US. While acknowledging that the cessation of hostilities is always a positive development, she cautioned that a silence from the weapons does not automatically equate to peace and freedom.
Looking at the recent ceasefire, Baerbock urged an honest assessment of the situation. “We should all be honest with each other at this time, concerning what has happened in recent months,” she stated. “What has been achieved with this war? And at what cost?”
