Schwesig Demands Price Caps and Tax Relief as Fuel Discount Ends

Looking ahead to the potential end of the fuel subsidy, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Minister-President, Manuela Schwesig, is pressing for immediate relief concerning energy prices and taxes. Speaking to the newspapers of the Funke-Mediengruppe, the SPD politician stated that if the federal government allows the fuel discount to expire, she expects the Chancellor to engage with mineral oil corporations to ensure that gasoline prices do not rise again. Beyond this warning, Schwesig further called on the federal government to implement a price cap, modeled after the system in Luxembourg. She also reiterated her demand for a comprehensive tax reform intended to ease the financial burden on small and medium incomes.
