Fuel Price Taskforce Meets Amid Stabilizing Trends and Looming Energy Tax Hike

Following the expiry of the 17-cent fuel subsidy, the task force established by the black-red coalition is scheduled to review fuel price trends again. According to reports from the “Rheinische Post”, another meeting of coalition members is planned for Friday of next week, even though the Bundestag will be in session. Sources within the task force indicated that further relief measures are currently deemed unnecessary, citing the recent, clear drop in petrol prices.

In addition to analyzing the fuel subsidy, the meeting will reportedly address the price fluctuations within the construction industry caused by disrupted supply chains. Representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Foreign Office are expected to participate in the discussions.

However, petrol prices are set to rise again, as the energy tax on gasoline and diesel will revert to its regular level starting July 1st.
