Göring-Eckardt Calls for Peaceful Protest Against AfD Party Congress to Defend Democracy

Former Vice President of the Bundestag, Katrin Göring-Eckardt of the Greens, has called upon people to attend the planned demonstrations opposing the AfD’s federal party conference this weekend. The parliamentarian, who hails from Thuringia, told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that “Erfurt is a vibrant, open city,” adding that the AfD is an adversary to those values. She announced that the city of Erfurt will respond to the AfD with a “Festival of Democracy.” During this event, people throughout the city will gather to talk, discuss issues, and celebrate freedom. Göring-Eckardt emphasized that every effort will be made to ensure the day remains peaceful, urging all protestors to participate. She concluded by promising, “Our protest will be loud, it will be colourful, and it will be open to anyone who wants to peacefully oppose the AfD and its dehumanizing politics.”
