Spahn Defends Tax Reform: Limited Relief Justified by Tight Budget Constraints

CDU faction leader Jens Spahn has defended the coalition’s proposed tax reform against criticism. Speaking to the CDU and CSU parliamentary group, he acknowledged that the relief offered might not meet expectations, but stressed that it represents the maximum possible easing given the current budgetary situation. According to attendees, Spahn also admitted that the relief measures will not be sufficient to absorb all additional burdens, particularly in social insurance contributions, although he added that no further concessions were possible within the overall compromise and financial constraints. The coalition reached an agreement last week on an income tax reform with an annual scope valued at approximately ten billion euros.
