Lang Defends Green Challenge Against Healthcare Cuts Amid Government Process Chaos

Former Green Party chairwoman Ricarda Lang defended the Greens’ constitutional complaint against the vote on the health insurance savings package. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Thursday, Lang stated that the current federal government was exhibiting “absolute chaos.” She described the law as inherently flawed in content, but also added that it was “damned poorly constructed.”

Lang criticized the manner in which the legislation was presented, asserting that the federal government had put forward 300 pages of amendments in what she termed a “smoke-and-mirrors operation.” Since the bill affects millions of people and involves billions of euros, she insists that the Bundestag must address it responsibly and should not rush the adoption process.

Meanwhile, Friedrich Merz (CDU), speaking as an opposition politician to the “traffic light” coalition government, criticized the handling of the bill as “poor craftsmanship” never before seen. However, Ricarda Lang responded by telling Merz that perhaps he should occasionally remember his own statements. The Greens indicated they are prepared to deliberate on the law again in September.
