Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has lost his position amidst the announced cabinet restructuring. On Wednesday, he announced his departure via Telegram, stating, “It was a great honor to serve the Ukrainian people as Defense Minister.”
Fedorov used the occasion to publish an extensive list enumerating his “successes” and pledged his continued commitment to the mission of defeating the enemy through “asymmetry, innovation speed, and organizational strength.” Media reports indicate that he will be succeeded by the current Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko.
The change is part of a broader government overhaul, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had unveiled over the weekend. This reshuffle also resulted in the dismissal of Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko. The entire government’s resignation was subsequently approved by the Ukrainian Parliament on Tuesday. Zelenskyy holds the authority to propose candidates for both the Defense Minister and Foreign Minister posts.
