BMW, the automotive manufacturer, is reportedly planning job cuts totaling around 8,000 positions globally, according to reports cited by the Handelsblatt from its company circles.
Under the new job reduction program, which was unveiled on Wednesday, BMW aims to generate annual savings of one billion euros. These costs are expected to decrease by the same amount starting in 2028.
The planned reduction period runs from October 2026 until the end of the following year. BMW intends to achieve this reduction through various methods, including standard retirements, phased retirement schemes, and, most significantly, a voluntary severance program.
It is important to note, however, that this specific program is slated to apply only to Germany. The roles targeted for reduction are those in the company’s indirect sector, primarily administrative and developmental positions.
