US Markets Rise on Strong Amazon Earnings, Fueled by AI Cloud Boom

US stock markets rose on Friday. In New York, the Dow closed at 52,485 points, marking a 0.5 percent gain compared to the previous day’s trading. The Nasdaq 100 ended the day 0.6 percent higher at 28,274 points, while the broader S&P 500 finished up 0.7 percent at 7,490 points.

Strong market sentiment was largely driven by business figures from Amazon as the week concluded. The company’s second-quarter results pleased investors, with its AWS cloud division being highlighted particularly due to the ongoing AI boom. Following this news, Amazon shares jumped by over 15 percent.

In currency markets, the European common currency showed some strength on Friday evening; one euro fetched 1.1530 US dollars, meaning a dollar cost 0.8673 euros.

The price of gold saw a notable decrease, trading at $4,050 per fine ounce by the evening, which represents a 1.3 percent drop. This equated to a price of 112.94 euros per gram. Meanwhile, the oil price climbed. At approximately 10 PM Central European Time, a barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea cost $88.22, an increase of 1.5 percent from the closing price of the previous trading day.
