Following the events in Ceuta, the Green Party members in the German Bundestag are calling upon EU Interior Ministers to investigate the circumstances surrounding the massive influx of tens of thousands of people. During the urgent meeting of the Interior Ministers scheduled for Tuesday, Green politician Sara Nanni told the “Rheinische Post” that the focus must be on “investigation, not populism at the expense of European unity.”
The joint objective, according to Nanni, should be to seriously investigate who drove over 70 people to death and tens of thousands into a desperate action she describes as doomed to fail. Indications are mounting that the large surge into Ceuta was not an uncontrolled migration, but rather a “coordinated action aimed at destabilizing and politically dividing Spain and Europe.” However, it remains unclear who was responsible or what their specific motivations were.
Nanni further explained that this “disrespectful action against humanity” has proven successful. Evidence for this is cited in the rapid loss of solidarity with Spain, a decline that has even been mirrored by the German federal government.
The EU Interior Ministers are scheduled to meet via video conference on Tuesday to discuss the crisis.
