Facing the likely special session of the Bundestag Interior Committee regarding the attack on the Berlin Christopher Street Day, the Green Party has submitted 50 questions to the federal government. This was reported by Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.
The inquiries address the incident on the day of the attack, the handling of the perpetrator, Abdul B., by the police-who shot him while attempting an arrest on Sunday-and the security authorities’ procedures concerning the Islamist who had been classified as a security threat prior to the event. The questions were formulated by the Greens’ parliamentary group’s domestic policy spokesman, Marcel Emmerich, deputy group leader Konstantin von Notz, and group manager Irene Mihalic.
Emmerich told the RND that because the alleged attacker is dead, the parliamentary clarification process must be conducted with even greater thoroughness. He stated that the Federal Minister of the Interior has yet to fully disclose which decisions were made, when, by whom, and why the attack could not be prevented.
Konstantin von Notz criticized the current political climate, explaining that before there has even been a complete investigation into this recent Islamist terrorist attack, widely sweeping political demands and calls for stricter penal codes-largely from the Union-are being discussed. He contended that taking such actions without sufficient factual clarification allows politicians to sidestep the core security issues, engaging in superficial measures that ultimately fail to improve internal security effectively, even if they sound politically neat. Notz emphasized that effective answers to the threat posed by Islamist terrorists are urgently needed, and these inquiries aim to contribute to achieving that.
