The Lesbian and Gay Association (LSVD) is urging for the implementation of immediate safety measures in the wake of the attack on the Berlin Christopher Street Day (CSD). As Alva Träbert, who is on the LSVD’s federal board, told the “Rheinische Post”, “The queer community needs political support and solidarity right now.”
The organization has formally presented ten specific recommendations addressing queer-hostile violence that it believes the political sphere must address immediately. Träbert emphasized that while many of these measures and recommendations have been discussed for years, this is the crucial time for their consistent implementation. These measures include enhancing prevention efforts, developing queer-sensitive security concepts, and ensuring reliable funding for community and counseling structures.
Furthermore, Träbert called for a debate that effectively strengthens the safety of queer individuals without pitting different societal groups against each other. This discussion, she insisted, must explicitly involve the community.
Meanwhile, the Inner Committee is scheduled to hold a special sitting on Tuesday. This meeting was called for by representatives of the Green Party and the Left Party, and it will focus on reviewing the actions of the security authorities leading up to the terrorist attack on the CSD in Berlin.
