In direct response to the foiled Semtex drone bombing attempt at Leipzig/Halle airport, the German federal government is implementing significant measures to protect critical infrastructure.
According to reports citing government circles, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) plans to issue a comprehensive ministerial directive to the Federal Police Command. The core of this order involves drastically boosting personnel and expanding the deployment of the Joint Drone Defense Center (GDAZ), a specialized unit for countering drones that was established late last year. Instead of having approximately 150 personnel available for drone defense, the forces will be increased to 300 highly specialized operators. Furthermore, the network of operational support points will be doubled, increasing from four to eight strategic locations across Germany.
This directive from the Interior Ministry is a direct reaction to the findings of investigators following the Leipzig drone incident. According to the news source, investigators suspect a coordinated “hybrid attack scenario.”
