Federal Minister for Research, Dorothee Bär of the CSU, views the planned BAföG reform as a crucial move toward making training and educational support more future-proof. According to Bär, this cabinet decision represents a turning point, allowing BAföG to fulfill its promise of supporting education. The reform will make the BAföG more digital and simplify administrative processes, thereby alleviating unnecessary bureaucratic burdens on both applicants and government agencies.
The Minister further stated that the measures will enhance support for both students and pupils. This improvement, she emphasized, will contribute to making good education more accessible for young people, encouraging youthful talent, and solidifying the skilled workforce. BÄFöG remains, according to the minister, the central legal framework for financing both academic and school-based training.
The German Federal Cabinet is scheduled to address the BAföG reform this Wednesday.
