The BSW (Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance) is focusing its strategy for the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on removing the incumbent CDU and establishing a cross-party Prime Minister.
Amira Mohamed Ali, co-chair of the BSW federal party, told the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition) that even considering the AfD’s role, their party cannot ignore the political force if it secures around 40 percent of the vote. Mohamed Ali stated that the BSW’s objective is the ousting of the current CDU officeholder. Instead, they aim for a Prime Minister who is perceived as belonging to no single party and who rules through shifting coalitions.
When asked whether the BSW faction would support the AfD’s top candidate, Ulrich Siegmund, for the Prime Minister role in the Magdeburger Landtag, she responded that if the other parties reject their model, the BSW would abstain in the third round of voting. In Saxony-Anhalt, the third round requires a simple majority of the votes cast, and abstentions are not taken into account in that count.
