AI Optimism Fuels Market Recovery Despite Mixed US Stock Performance

The US stock exchanges showed mixed results on Wednesday. By the close in New York, the Dow stood at 53,770 points, reflecting a decline of 0.1 percent compared to the previous trading day. However, earlier in the day, the broader S&P 500 was up 0.3 percent, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 reached around 29,740 points, gaining 0.7 percent at that time.

Positive sentiment on Wall Street was driven by optimistic outlooks from the AI industry. Following previous investor concerns, there is a potential return of AI enthusiasm. Furthermore, US inflation data released on Wednesday likely contributed to the cheerful atmosphere in New York. The inflation rate fell slightly to 3.4 percent in July 2026, down from 3.5 percent in the previous month. This indicated that no major surprises were on the horizon regarding price changes.

In currency markets, the Euro weakened slightly on Wednesday evening; one Euro exchanged for 1.1522 US Dollars, meaning the Dollar was available for 0.8679 Euros.

Meanwhile, commodity markets presented different trends. The price of gold benefited, rising 1 percent to reach $4,412 per fine ounce in the evening, which equates to 123.11 Euros per gram. Conversely, oil prices declined. At approximately 10 PM German time on Wednesday, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $88.65, marking a drop of 0.3 percent, or 26 cents, from the close of the preceding trading day.
