The European Athletics Championships in Birmingham have delivered the first gold medals for Germany. Gesa Krause from Hessen secured the gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing the race in 9:12.69 and claiming her third European Championship title. She was followed by Alice Finot of France in silver, and Olivia Gürth won her first international medal with the bronze.
In the men’s decathlon, Leo Neugebauer triumphed to become the European champion. After completing ten disciplines, he amassed a total of 8,611 points. His compatriot Niklas Kaul finished second with 8,573 points, securing the silver medal. The bronze position was taken by Norwegian Sander Skotheim.
Moving to the men’s discus throw, Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia successfully defended his title with an impressive throw of 72.51 meters. Although Henrik Janssen from Magdeburg delivered a consistent performance, he was unable to climb into the medal positions. The remaining podium spots in this event were claimed by Mykolas Alekna from Lithuania and Daniel Stahl from Sweden.
