Producer prices for agricultural products saw a significant decline in June 2026, falling 13.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. This overall downward trend followed similar patterns in prior months: in May 2026, the change from the previous year was also -13.9 percent, and in April 2026, it was -12.3 percent, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Furthermore, when comparing June 2026 to May 2026, producer prices decreased by 1.7 percent.
Looking into specific sectors, prices for plant products dropped 6.5 percent compared to June 2025, while prices for animals and animal products fell sharply by 17.8 percent. Even month-over-month, plant products saw a decrease of 3.1 percent in June 2026, and animal and dairy products decreased by 0.9 percent.
The 6.5 percent drop in plant product prices year-on-year is partly attributed to declining prices for potatoes, which were 35.9 percent lower in June 2026 compared to June 2025. In May 2026, the drop for potatoes was 53.5 percent, and in April 2026, it was 54.7 percent. However, compared to May 2026, potato prices actually rose by 1.9 percent.
Fruit prices showed mixed results in June 2026; they were 17.6 percent lower than a year earlier. Significant price cuts were recorded for table apples, which fell by 33.5 percent, although strawberries countered this trend, rising by 5.6 percent compared to June 2025.
For vegetables, prices increased slightly by 0.1 percent within the year. Notably, ice lettuce (+62.4 percent), cucumbers (+30.3 percent), and tomatoes (+29.2 percent) became more expensive, while cauliflower and asparagus saw price reductions of 19.1 percent and 18.3 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year.
Grains were 7.7 percent cheaper in June 2026 than in June 2025. Prices for forage crops decreased by 6.4 percent year-on-year. Conversely, overall commercial crops were 2.1 percent higher, with canola specifically rising by 4.5 percent. Wine prices were also higher, increasing by 0.7 percent compared to June 2025.
The substantial 17.8 percent decrease in animal and animal product prices compared to last year is linked in part to milk prices, which were 25.4 percent lower in June 2026 than in June 2025. Milk prices remained unchanged month-over-month, showing 0.0 percent change between May and June 2026. However, egg prices saw an 11.0 percent increase within the same timeframe.
Animal prices themselves fell 14.8 percent in June 2026 compared to June 2025. This decrease was primarily driven by a 25.5 percent drop in slaughter pigs and an 8.0 percent fall in beef prices. Poultry prices were 0.4 percent lower in June 2026 than in the previous year, mainly due to a 5.5 percent reduction in chicken prices. However, other poultry (ducks and turkeys) saw an 8.0 percent rise.
