Nina Warken, the Minister of the Chancellery and member of the CDU, is strongly pushing forward the planned reform of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), a change that has already been approved by the cabinet. Given the current international threats and the increasing prevalence of cyberattacks, Warken, who also coordinates Germany’s intelligence services, is prioritizing the rapid modernization of the services to meet the evolving security landscape. Speaking to “Bild am Sonntag”, she stated that the legislative process for this reform must be completed by the end of the year, after which the services will promptly begin utilizing their new authority to ensure everyone’s safety. Beyond the BND, Warken is also emphasizing the need for speed across all other reforms initiated by the coalition government. She stressed that the federal government’s reform agenda must be transformed into tangible results, calling this year a decisive one for that implementation.
