Following the violent outbreaks during the Cup Derby between Waldhof Mannheim and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the German Police Union (GdP) is demanding severe penalties for the perpetrators and significant consequences for the clubs involved. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Andreas Roßkopf, the GdP Chairman for the Federal Police region, stated that criminals must be punished with all possible severity and consequence, and that the clubs must be obligated to cover the costs of the police intervention.
Roßkopf described the incidents as intolerable, asserting that fines alone are no longer sufficient. In his view, the appropriate response would have been a match interruption or disqualification from the DFB Cup. The involvement of the police successfully averted a worse situation, Roßkopf added, and the GdP chairman wished a speedy recovery to all injured colleagues.
