The heads of state and government from the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” met in Kyiv on Monday, supplemented by a video conference, to reaffirm their support for Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity. The federal government announced the meeting, which was led jointly by Prime Minister Andy Burnham, President Emmanuel Macron, and Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), alongside President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The leaders jointly condemned the “escalating attacks by Russia” on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure, which have resulted in numerous civilian casualties. They underscored Ukraine’s right to defend itself against the Russian invasion and announced plans to increase military assistance. Furthermore, the coalition agreed to tighten sanctions targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex.
The participants also committed to supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and strengthening its economic resilience. They welcomed the efforts of the U.S. Senate to ramp up economic pressure on Russia and reiterated their solidarity with Ukraine. Finally, the coalition plans to prepare a multinational force for Ukraine as soon as a credible ceasefire is achieved.
