Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, expressed a sense of calm regarding low levels of German gas reserves. According to Müller, the country’s gas supply is not solely dependent on storage facilities, but is also secured through pipelines and LNG. He added to Handelsblatt that the role of storage has shifted in recent years, and the current storage level is merely one indicator among several.
Despite this reassurance, Müller conceded that the current level of storage fill does not yet meet expectations. However, he remains confident that gas traders, in addition to economic viability, are committed to fulfilling the delivery obligations they have undertaken with their customers.
Regarding the controversial network reform initiative by the Federal Network Agency, known as “NEST,” Müller stated that the agency has received 700 complaints so far, coming from roughly 850 network operators across Germany. When asked about his relationship with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche (CDU), the former Green politician affirmed that their collaboration is based on trust.
