According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), real order intake in the German construction main trades increased by 6.0 percent in June 2026 compared to May, after adjusting for calendar and seasonal variations. This growth was driven by several major projects.
Specifically, order intake for structural building rose by 8.5 percent, while order intake for civil engineering saw an increase of 4.0 percent. When compared over the three-month period, the calendar and seasonal adjusted order intake from April to June 2026 was 5.7 percent higher than in the previous three months (Structural Building: +1.5 percent; Civil Engineering: +9.3 percent).
Year-over-year comparisons show that the real, calendar-adjusted order intake in the construction main trades rose by 11.3 percent in June 2026. Within this category, structural building intake increased by 4.3 percent, and civil engineering intake increased by 17.8 percent. Meanwhile, the nominal order intake was 20.8 percent higher than the corresponding figure from the previous year.
In terms of financial performance, real turnover in the construction main trades was 6.6 percent higher in June 2026 than in the same month last year. The nominal turnover increased by 11.5 percent during this period, reaching 11.2 billion euros.
Finally, the number of employees in the construction main trades increased by 1.5 percent in June 2026 compared to the previous year, rising to approximately 545,000 people. These figures pertain to businesses employing 20 or more individuals.
