A further deportation flight to Afghanistan departed early Tuesday morning from Leipzig-Halle Airport. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, twenty-three Afghan men who are subject to compulsory departure were transferred to Kabul on a charter flight. The ministry stated that most of these individuals are criminal offenders convicted of serious crimes, including, according to ministry figures, sexual and physical assault offenses. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) commented on the action, stating that “our society has a clear interest in making sure that criminals leave our country.” He also emphasized the strict policy, clarifying that “anyone who does not have a right of residence in Germany must expect to leave our country. We are implementing this course consistently.”
