A passenger ferry capsized in North Cyprus early Sunday afternoon shortly after departing Kyrenia, bound for the Turkish port of Tasucu. According to reports, the vessel overturned approximately two kilometers off the coast of Kyrenia. Turkish-Cypriot coast guard units were immediately dispatched to the scene, supported by a rescue helicopter and several other boats that rushed to the aid of those onboard. Local authorities confirmed that the ship carried a total of 259 passengers and eight crew members. The situation was described as “serious.” At the time, no details had been released regarding the cause of the accident or the condition of the rescued people.
