Dax Dips Slightly While Trump Comments Offer Temporary Market Relief

The German index, the Dax, posted a slight loss through midday on Thursday morning, following a subdued start to trading. At approximately 12:30 PM, the core index was calculated at around 25,790 points, marking a 0.2% drop compared to the previous day’s closing level. On the strength list, Telekom, SAP, and Heidelberg Materials ranked highest, while Rheinmetall, Airbus, and Adidas were among those that saw losses.

Commentators noted that statements from Donald Trump regarding Iran-specifically his description of the actions as only short-term attacks-have provided a boost to the markets. Thomas Altmann of QC Partners stated that this news is encouraging stock markets because energy prices and interest rates do not appear set to rise further, offering temporary relief. However, he cautioned that for genuine long-term calm, much more is required, pointing to the fact that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and that the conflict parties are far from achieving lasting peace, even should the attacks cease.

In exchange rates, the European community currency showed slight strength at midday. The euro cost 1.1601 US dollars, meaning a dollar was trading for 0.8620 euros.
