Following the hacker attack on the Berlin administration and the subsequent release of confidential data in the darknet, CDU foreign and defense policy politician Roderich Kiesewetter has raised alarms about severe consequences for Germany’s defense capabilities. Speaking to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, he stated that “this data outflow is of a grave magnitude and endangers our national security.”
Kiesewetter emphasized how critically serious the situation is, noting that highly sensitive plans covering comprehensive defense, the protection of vital infrastructure, and emergency concepts for crisis and defense scenarios are now circulating in the darknet, potentially exposing them to adversarial intelligence services and terrorist networks.
He argued that the immediate priority must be ruthless damage control. Federal and state authorities need to urgently conduct a forensic analysis to determine precisely which documents were leaked, while also fundamentally revising and adapting compromised defensive and operation plans without any delay.
Furthermore, he criticized the persistent uneven and negligent handling of cybersecurity standards and classification mandates within the federal structure and at the state level. Kiesewetter stressed that “anyone who wants to establish our comprehensive defense as resilient must necessarily raise digital defense and secret protection to the same high-security level at all federal interfaces.”
