National team coach Jürgen Klopp is heading into his first matches on the sidelines with a very large squad.
According to the DFB, the roster for the initial two matches-scheduled for September 24th in the Netherlands and September 27th against Greece-includes 24 players. An additional 20 players will join the team for the subsequent fixture against Serbia on October 1st and the return leg in Greece on October 4th. This initial group of players will see most members return to their respective clubs after the first two games.
The decision to split the squad into two separate groups reflects Klopp’s strategic approach, allowing him to scout and assess as many talents as possible. “I was traveling a lot over the last four weeks and saw many players in person,” Klopp explained. “I was away from the Bundesliga for eleven years; it makes a huge difference to actually see a football player live.”
The first squad features Finn Dahmen, Alexander Nübel, and Marc-André ter Stegen in goal. The defensive line includes Hennes Behrens, Yann Aurel Bisseck, Nathaniel Brown, Max Rosenfelder, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jonathan Tah, Philipp Treu, and Josha Vagnoman. Midfielders consist of Nadiem Amiri, Bambasé Conté, Yannik Engelhardt, Chris Führich, Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Felix Nmecha, Kevin Schade, and Anton Stach. Up front, Younes Ebnoutalib and Kai Havertz are listed.
The second group names Noah Atubolu, Finn Dahmen, and Jonas Urbig for the goalkeeper positions. The defense is made up of Waldemar Anton, Ridle Baku, Finn Jeltsch, Maximilian Mittelstädt, David Raum, and Malick Thiaw. In midfield, the players are Karim Adeyemi, Mika Baur, Tom Bischof, Said El Mala, Brajan Gruda, Vitaly Janelt, Felix Keidel, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Derry Scherhant, and Florian Wirtz. The attack will be led by Jonathan Burkardt and Nick Woltemade.
