Klaus Holetschek, chairman of the CSU faction in the Bavarian State Parliament, warned the SPD and the Greens against supporting the election of Elif Eralp of The Left Party as Berlin’s Governing Mayor. Speaking to the “Tagesspiegel” (Tuesday edition), he stated, “The SPD and the Greens should seriously consider whether they are paving the way in Berlin’s City Hall for a party that tolerates anti-Semitism and sometimes spreads antisemitism at its rallies.” Holetschek concluded that, given these circumstances, any potential left-wing coalition lacks the legitimacy to govern the federal capital. The Left Party clearly won the state elections on Sunday, securing 25.7 percent of the vote. While a Red-Red-Green coalition remains mathematically possible, a coalition led by the CDU is also viable.
