The CDU’s Federal Executive Board has named Michael Hose, a Member of the Bundestag, as the new Deputy General Secretary of the party, succeeding Christina Stumpp. This nomination was announced by the CDU on Monday.
In this capacity, Hose will be responsible for strengthening the party’s connection with its grassroots membership, particularly in the eastern German states. His portfolio will also cover the representation of municipal political interests and the promotion of young talent. Additionally, he will provide support to the General Secretary in her work.
Hose has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2025. Prior to this, he was represented on the Erfurt City Council starting in 2014, and has served as the chairman of the CDU City Council faction since 2019. Friedrich Merz, the head of the CDU and federal chancellor, commented on the appointment, noting that Hose’s “biographical experiences” would serve to enrich the party’s executive board.
