Following bans imposed by the White House on the U.S. broadcaster CNN and other media outlets, four additional major American news organizations have temporarily curtailed their coverage of President Donald Trump. In a joint statement released on Monday with CNN, the networks ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC announced they would temporarily cease reporting on Trump’s appearances. These stations are part of a rotation system that travels with the president to various events.
CNN, MS Now, and the news portal Politico have initiated legal proceedings against the exclusion. They argue that the government does not have the authority to determine what the press reports or publishes. The exclusion was stated to have been implemented without prior notice or procedure due to objections regarding the media’s reporting.
Trump had previously announced his intention to ban CNN and other media from the White House. He accused the media of spreading “misinformation” that he claimed posed a “danger to national security.” Critics view the ban as an attack on press freedom, and the association of White House correspondents condemned the move as unconstitutional.
