Berlin and its partners have officially withdrawn their application to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Berlin Senate announced this on Thursday, confirming reports that had circulated in the media. The bid had initially been made jointly by Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. However, Berlin had recently ranked last in the evaluation report prepared by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). Furthermore, the political left-wing party, which had secured a victory in the recent state elections, had opposed the games taking place in the capital. The DOSB is scheduled to hold an extraordinary general member meeting this Saturday in Baden-Baden to make the final decision on the German bid. Currently, only Munich and the Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr region remain in the running.
