The Green Party welcomed the meeting between German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in New York, while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of German support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Franziska Brantner, head of the Green Party, told the “Rheinische Post” that she was grateful to the Foreign Minister for initiating the conversation. However, she noted that the reaction from the Russian Foreign Minister once again demonstrated that Putin has no interest in peace negotiations with Ukraine.
Brantner added that Putin is relentlessly targeting the country daily and nightly with new drone and missile attacks. She stressed that Germany also has a role to play in ensuring Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. According to the Green politician, the Ukrainians are fighting every day to defend “their freedom and thus the European order of peace.”
With a harsh winter approaching for Ukraine, Brantner warned that citizens must prepare for Vladimir Putin to intensify his attacks on the energy supply during this period.
