Preliminary results indicated approximately 1.2 million votes were cast, with 65% favoring the establishment of a new party.
Musk’s reasoning for the creation of the America Party centers on concerns regarding the nation’s economic trajectory. He stated that current policies contribute to national debt and corruption, hindering a genuine democratic process. He positioned the new party as a vehicle to “give you back your freedom.
The announcement incorporates a historical analogy, referencing the Greek general Epaminondas. Musk drew parallels to Epaminondas’ tactical victory at Leuktra, suggesting the America Party will employ a similarly concentrated and precise approach to challenge the existing political system.
The move follows a recent and apparent shift in Musk’s political associations. Previously a strong supporter of former US President Donald Trump, their relationship appears to have strained in recent weeks. The catalyst for this divergence reportedly stems from a disagreement surrounding the recent approval of the “Big Beautiful Bill” a US budget measure which significantly increases the national debt.
