The VdK social association has welcomed the progress being made in the debate surrounding the nursing care reform and supports the proposals put forward by Federal Health Minister Carsten Linnemann (CDU). According to the “Rheinische Post”, VdK President Verena Bentele commented that it was good to see the debate around the care reform gaining momentum again. She urged the federal government to now focus on achieving genuine improvements, stressing that the package must primarily help the 5.7 million people in need of care who receive care at home, as well as their relatives. The VdK has long advocated for the measures Minister Linnemann is now proposing, including the repayment of the borrowed €5.2 billion in pandemic-related additional costs to the social care insurance. Furthermore, the VdK President stated that the assurance that pension contributions for caring relatives will not be cut is a step in the right direction.
